Wall World Strategy Colony Building Guide

Your colony grows outward from the Core across a sheer vertical surface. Since the demo, the rule is simple: construct a building and connect it to the road network, and it starts working. Plan roads first and every structure has somewhere to plug in.

Schematic of the connection rule: buildings on the road network work, a building off the network does not.

How a building starts working

  1. Construct the building — Pick a spot on the Wall and place the structure. Playtest v0.3.0 already made placing buildings, roads and foundations easier.
  2. Connect it to a road — The demo reworked foundations into one step: once a building is constructed and joined to the road network, it functions. There is no separate foundation job to manage.
  3. Read its information panel — Each building has an information panel for its production. Those panels were reworked in the playtest, and the demo adjusted the icons shown on buildings so problems are easier to spot.
  4. Expect repairs — Damage needs fixing. The repair system was reworked between the playtest and the demo, so earlier habits may not carry over.

Roads, stairs and the Core

  1. The Core is the hub — The Core is the centre of the colony. Stairs can be built and removed around it, and the Demo Update fixed a bug that broke removing stairs near the Core.
  2. Road tiles are quicker now — The Demo Update simplified road tile placement, optimised the placement algorithm and refreshed the construction animations, so laying out a network takes fewer clicks.
  3. Your layout is a path network — Robo-spiders and attacking zyrexes both move through the city. The Demo Update improved that navigation, so roads shape how units and enemies travel.
  4. Think vertically — Everything sits on a vertical surface. After the demo, Alawar said it was expanding the vertical side of building for the full game.

Planning a first layout

The store page frames growth as a series of trade-offs: production, housing or defense. Each choice links to a system with its own sheet.

Production Production chains Plan where key structures sit so raw resources flow into processing. Mines and electricity feed this chain. Mining & Research →
Housing Living areas Expand housing as the population grows. Overpopulation or food shortages lower efficiency and can end in riots. Colonists →
Defense Protection Zyrexes attack again and again. Concrete defense walls became cheaper to build in the Demo Update. Zyrex Defense →
Storage Extra storage Additional storage buildings hold surplus resources. The demo fixed a bug where their amounts were not saved and loaded correctly. Mining & Research →
